During the implementation of the first stage of the project, the equilibrium composition of the system was calculated, chemical equations and parameters of chemical reactions were determined during the combustion of irradiated graphite, which is similar in characteristics to the graphite of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant. A method for the simultaneous determination of the composition of waste gas and ash content during the burning of irradiated graphite has been developed, which consists in the combination of the method for determining the ash content of graphite developed by the authors and the method for determining the composition of waste gas during the burning of graphite. A scheme of an improved muffle furnace and a principle-technological scheme for this technique have been developed. The developed methodology for determining the ash content of graphite was tested experimentally. The application of the obtained results contributes to the scientific substantiation of recommendations for reducing the radiation load on personnel and minimizing the hazardous impact on the environment during the decommissioning of power units with a graphite moderator.
