The purpose of the study is to investigate changes in the ecological state of the areas where mining activities are carried out, to identify sources of pollution and to determine the amount of pollutants. The subject of the study: ways of pollution of the lithosphere, surface and underground hydrosphere by substances accumulated in rock dumps and tailing pits. Scientific novelty of the work: it was found that over time there is a change in the chemical composition of groundwater leaving the dump; it was found that as a result of the dissolution of ferruginous quartzites, dissolved substances migrate into groundwater; the need to improve methods of environmental assessment of surface water quality, taking into account what types of industry are developed within the water basin; the effectiveness of using a set of geophysical methods to study the technical condition of tailings dams of mining and processing facilities is shown.
