The mass of seeds from the plant ≥ 15 g and the content of silymarin in the seeds (for the Sirius variety - ≥ 4.0%, for the Panacea variety - ≥ 4.5%) were determined as criteria for selecting plants and 10-11 plants were selected according to these indicators with minor deviations in the obtained indicators by years. An assessment of the seeds collected in the nurseries of families (21 families of the Sirius variety and 23 families of the Panacea variety) by productivity and biochemical indicators was carried out. A high and stable percentage of silybinin in seeds from the total number of flavolignans (58.0-60.5%) of the collected families of the high-silybinin variety Panacea was established. The productivity of the family ≥ 18.0 c/ha and the content of silymarin in the seeds (for the Sirius variety - ≥ 3.7%, for the Panacea variety - ≥ 4.3%) were determined as criteria for selecting the families of the studied varieties and selected according to the results of a comprehensive assessment according to these criteria for 5-6 families of each variety for further management of their primary seed production.
