Namely, a number of representatives of the А2ВХ4 group (K2SO4:Cu2+, (NH4)2BeF4), the langazite group (CGG, CTGS, CNGS, BTGS, CNAS), crystals with a scheelite structure (CaMoO4, CdMoO4, PbWO4, BaWO4), and as well as the isotropic chalcohalide system 65GeS2-25Ga2S3-10CsCl, activated by the rare-earth europium ion (Er3+). Part of the experimental data is compared with the data of quantum-mechanical calculation. A conclusion was made about the effectiveness of the quantum-mechanical method of calculating the photoelastic characteristics of crystalline materials, including regarding the calculation of the spectral dependences of these characteristics. The surfaces of the spatial distribution of the photoelastic characteristics of the stu¬died materials were constructed, the maxima of these surfaces and their angular coordinates were found. AO efficiency was calculated for these maxima. A conclusion was made about the prospects of using the investigated optical materials in photoelastic and AO light modulation devices, inclu¬ding in the ultraviolet region of the spectrum.
