The purpose of the study is to analyze the state of youth in the labor market and the conditions for achieving effective youth employment in the system of strategic management of the socio-economic development of the region. The first paragraph examined the theoretical and methodological foundations of youth as a special socio-economic category. The socio-economic functions of youth in society, the components of the formation of the competitiveness of youth as a subject of economic employment. In the second paragraph, the factors determining the socio-economic efficiency of youth employment were analyzed. The components of the formation of prerequisites for effective human employment, the role of self-realization in the process of creating conditions for effective employment are determined. The role of the social effectiveness of youth employment is substantiated, which reflects the need of a person to express himself through socially useful work, as well as the degree of satisfaction of his needs at a certain level of social and economic development of society. In the third paragraph, research is conducted on the existing institutional mechanisms for regulating the youth labor market. Factors affecting the effective employment of young people both at the state and regional levels have been identified. The shortcomings of traditional approaches to regulatory policy in the field of youth employment have been revealed. The conclusions provide the main results of the first stage of the research on the theoretical and methodological aspects of youth employment in the modern labor market.
