It has been proven that the air temperature above the soil surface should be substituted into the formula for calculating the change in gas temperature along the length of the pipeline between compressor stations. Thanks to this, it became possible to determine the quantitative changes in the thermophysical and hydraulic characteristics of the gas flow along the length of the pipe, in particular, changes in density, viscosity, heat capacity, and flow regimes. Knowledge of thermophysical properties made it possible to model the current change in the coefficient of hydraulic resistance along the length of the pipeline section. Analytical studies made it possible to develop practical recommendations for energy-saving operation of air cooling devices at compressor stations of main gas pipelines. It was determined that the optimal gas temperature at the outlet of air cooling devices will be the temperature at which the point of inversion of heat exchange along the length of the gas pipeline coincides with the location of the next compressor station. It is shown how it is possible to regulate gas cooling in air cooling devices - its temperature at the entrance to the main gas pipeline. In particular, it is established by turning off one of several working air cooling devices and changing the number of revolutions of the electric motor in the fan drive of the air cooling device.
