Such a scenario can be implemented using ion cyclotron (IC) heating. A numerical study of deuterium heating on the main ion cyclotron harmonic and tritium heating on the second harmonic was carried out from the point of view of the connection with the antenna and the heating efficiency. The behavior of the introduced resistance of the antenna and high-frequency radiation power in the cyclotron zone was analyzed depending on the heating frequency, plasma density and temperature, and the position of the antenna. The performed calculations showed good conditions for deuterium heating at the main ion-cyclotron frequency. The heating is weakly sensitive to the temperature of the ions and, therefore, there are no problems associated with starting from low temperatures. Sensitivity to other factors, such as plasma density, antenna location, etc. is not critical. Heating tritium on the second harmonic is a more delicate matter. High-frequency heating is always accompanied by a noticeable penetration of wave energy to the middle part of the trap, where the wave is absorbed by tritium in the zone of the second ion cyclotron harmonic. Most of the wave energy remaining after that can also be absorbed in the second tritium resonance zone near the opposite magnetic plug. Calculations predict a relatively sensitive dependence on plasma density, antenna location, and tritium temperature. However, if the necessary conditions are met, this heating scenario is quite effective.  Product Description popup.authors BARON Demian I. Harkusha Ihor Ye.
