The purpose of the study is to comprehensively cover the aspects of the formation of the architectural environment of an industrial city, to formulate the principles of energy efficiency of the architectural environment of an industrial city for use by managers of enterprises, architects in the practice of architectural design, reconstruction of objects of the architectural environment of an industrial city, as well as teachers and students of universities. Research methods - methods of environmental analysis, territorial analysis, analysis of urban planning characteristics, field survey, theoretical modeling, experimental design, generalization, analysis, analysis of literary sources, graphic modeling, computer modeling. The main stages of development in adaptive architecture are identified. The classification and conceptual apparatus of adaptive architecture are supplemented and clarified in connection with the introduction of the concept of interactivity. Energy-efficient and interactive methods of forming adaptive architecture are supplemented and systematized. The most specific characteristic historical elements of the city's landscaping and gardening are identified. Based on the results of the research, a methodology for course design has been developed.
