With a significant reduction in access to natural resources, the main challenge of ensuring the functioning of the architectural component of cities lies on the technosphere and social resources. The «Coefficient» that is being developed provides an evaluation of the negative impact of these resources on the environment. This article is a development of the hypothesis that the proposed methods might be appropriate for the national system of voluntary eco-certification of buildings, which the authors are developing. Existing similar national systems around the world have identified the problem of insufficient map-ping of the true impact of the architectural component of cities on the environ-ment. With the greatest potential for impact on the global community, «green standards» do not always reflect the life-cycle impacts of building innovations on the environment. The use of the «Coefficient» in rating evaluations of the environmental per-formance of buildings and their systems and elements in the long term could in-fluence public consciousness towards greater responsibility for the decisions that are made. The article declares the authors' acknowledgement of architects' re-sponsibility to stop environmental degradation and provides a vision for the de-velopment of new, more ecological approaches in architecture.
