In the wettest local vegetation, the dominant endohydric mosses formed the loosest turfs with increased roughness due to the different heights of fertile and sterile shoots, which significantly influenced the regulation of moisture content and photosynthetic activity due to the stimulation of air flow turbulence and CO2 penetration. In the areas of ancient beech forests disturbed by the uprooting of trees, the replacement of bryophyte associations of perennial stayers and colonists by unranked groups dominated by mesophytic species was caused by their interrelationships in the group and the influence of environmental conditions. As the anthropogenic load increased, the participation of rankless groups of xeromesophyte settlers increased. It was proved that the carboxylase activity of ribulose-1,6-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase is an indicator of the intensity of photosynthesis of forest mosses (r=0.88) depending on the features of their water regime. In conditions of water deficit, the decrease in the activity of the enzyme led to an increase in the oxidative modification of proteins and an increase in the content of carbonyl groups in cells. In the conditions of unfavorable water and temperature regime of anthropogenically disturbed forest territories, compared to protected areas, the generation of superoxidanion radicals, the content of primary products of lipoperoxidation, as well as the activity of antioxidant enzymes increase, which contributes to their stress resistance to adverse conditions of local growth. It was established that the content of ammonium and nitrate forms of nitrogen was mostly higher in mosses with a loose sod life form than with a loose web.
