The purpose of the work was to create breeding material of spring bread wheat being resistant to stem rust, adapted to the conditions of the Forest Steppe of Ukraine. The research methodology is conventional in breeding work. Research results. The intensity of damage of spring wheat source material on artificial infectious background was determined. On natural infectious background, no manifestation of disease-causing agents was noted. A new hybrid material has been created. It was found that the inheritance of spike productivity components in F1 hybrids created from crossing lines with known stem rust resistance genes occurred according to the type of positive overdominance, partial positive dominance, intermediate inheritance and depression. The hybrids F1 with a high level of manifestation of true heterosis according to spike productivity components were identified. In hybrid combinations, a high value of the broad-sense heritability coefficient was noted; the value of the narrow-sense heritability coefficient was from 0.15 to 0.45. This indicates that the genotypic variability of the investigated traits is determined in most cases by non-additive (dominant) effects of genes. F2 hybrid combinations were identified, in which high degree and frequency of transgression for spike productivity components were noted. The obtained results indicate the possibility of successful selection work with the participation of varieties and lines with known resistance genes in the creation of new highly productive breeding material being resistant to pathogens.
