Registration Date 22-12-2023 Organization Physico-Mechanical Institute named after GV Karpenko of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description2  The effect of thermo-chemical treatment on the corrosion resistance of porous titanium was evaluated. It was shown that the formation of binary (TiN or TiO2) layers from the gas phase, which provide a high level of anti-corrosion characteristics, is effective for porous titanium. It was found that nitriding increases the corrosion resistance of titanium and Ti6Al4V alloy with a porosity of no more than 4% by 1...2 orders of magnitude, which is explained by the formation of a surface TiN layer that closes the surface pores, thereby neutralizing their negative effect. It was established that carrying out additional (post) both heat and thermo-chemical treatments allows to improve the corrosion resistance of the additively manufactured Ti6Al4V titanium alloy. Thus, by applying additional treatments, it is possible to ensure the corrosion resistance of the additively manufactured alloy at the same level as the wrought one (in the case of heat treatment), or significantly increase it (in the case of nitriding).
