Research methods - physical experiment with registration of rapid processes, X-ray phase analysis, optical and electron microscopy. As a result of the conducted research, nano-sized tungsten carbides were obtained by high-frequency electrospark treatment (EST) of metallic tungsten granules and tungsten-nickel-iron (TNI) scrap in carbon-containing liquids. Studies have confirmed that regardless of the starting material (tungsten, TNI scrap) and processing medium (hexane, kerosene), the end product is tungsten carbides. During the interaction of carbon and tungsten vapor, tungsten carbides are synthesized, which is confirmed by the obtained diffractograms, according to which the obtained powder contains tungsten carbides and tungsten residues. It has been proven that to reduce the size of tungsten carbide particles, it is necessary to reduce the local volume of the spark channel, in which tungsten vaporization and pyrolysis of the working fluid take place. By reducing the energy of the pulse, by reducing its duration, nanosized particles of tungsten carbides were obtained. With reduced energy in each discharge pulse, the number of formed tungsten carbide particles also decreases, which affects the performance of electrospark processing. In order to block this effect, it is necessary to increase the frequency of pulses. The scientific significance of the research results lies in the development of the scientific basis for obtaining nanosized powder of tungsten carbides by means of high-frequency electrospark treatment of tungsten granules. and in recommendations for choosing the initial electrical characteristics of the source of current pulses, geometric parameters of tungsten granules and the chemical composition of the carbon-containing working fluid.
