The subject of the study is a system for assessing the characteristics of the inheritance of adaptive and economically valuable traits in the selection of tobacco plants, which determines the selection value of the tobacco gene pool of different geographical origins based on a complex of morphological and economically valuable traits and the effectiveness of its use in the creation of heterosis hybrids. The purpose of the research is a comprehensive assessment of morphological features and productivity elements of the initial forms of tobacco grown in conditions of insufficient moisture and high environmental temperatures. Research methods - laboratory, field, measuring and weighing, statistical. In the conditions of the forest-steppe of Ukraine, for the first time, the peculiarities of the manifestation of economic and valuable characteristics of tobacco collection samples in conditions of insufficient amount of moisture and high temperatures were investigated, and new genetic sources were identified for the morphological characteristics of plants, yield of raw materials, seed productivity and early maturity. A system for evaluating the characteristics of the inheritance of adaptive and economically valuable traits in the selection of tobacco plants has been developed, which is based on the study of the results of the inheritance of productivity and biometric indicators of the obtained hybrids and will be used to study the next generations of F2 and F3 of the obtained hybrids.
