Aim of study: to conduct an ecological and agrochemical assessment of the state of agricultural landscapes in the Western region, including rural areas, based on monitoring studies, and to establish the peculiarities of migration and accumulation of nutrients and ecotoxicants. To develop measures to prevent pollution of soil, groundwater, open water and crop products for the sustainable functioning of the agroecosystem. Research methods: local and field agro-ecological monitoring and landscape-geochemical monitoring. Measures to prevent contamination of soil, groundwater, open bodies of water and plant products with ecotoxicants for the environmentally safe functioning of agro-ecosystems of the Western region are proposed. They include: informational and educational, regulatory and organizational measures. Their use will contribute to the improvement of the ecological situation in the agro-landscapes of the Western region, including rural settlements. The scientific and practical recommendations «Ecological condition of rural settlements in the Western region and measures for environmentally safe functioning of agroecosystems» were developed. The paper provides information on the ecological state of rural settlements in Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Zakarpattia, Rivne, Ternopil, Khmelnytsky, Volyn, and Chernivtsi regions of Western Ukraine and suggests measures to prevent environmental pollution by ecotoxicants.
