Principle of operation: Philips Achieva and Intera systems are magnetic resonance imaging systems (tomographs). Their work is based on the fact that atomic nuclei, which are in the human body, emit a weak relaxation signal when they are placed in a strong magnetic field and when excited by a radio signal at the precession frequency. The released relaxation signals are processed by the system, and the computer-reconstructed image is displayed on the video monitor.
