The article analyzes the fundamental concepts of folk philosophy, such as human life and its value, in a broad chronological perspective from the VII to the XXI century. The first section analyzes the value orientations among the pre-Christian population of Galicia and the process of their transformation under the influence of Christianity in the context of sacrifices, funeral rites, and building social ties. The second section proves that the concept of the value of human life is one of the key categories that are preserved in folk worldviews and beliefs that are reflected in folklore - mythological legends, stories, and fables about human destiny, death, the otherworldly existence of the soul, and the magical projection of happiness or misfortune by certain categories of people. The third section of the monograph is devoted to identifying and characterizing the peculiarities of the perception of the value of life in the minds of Ukrainians who have been at the front since 2014: the transformation of stereotypes of perception of masculinity, women warriors, and fraternization at the front and in the postwar period. For ethnologists, historians, folklorists, local historians, and anyone interested in the history and folk culture of Ukrainians.
