The purpose of the work is to investigate the importance of the physical, biotic and social properties of landscapes for the optimization of land use and ecosystem services in the context of global climate change and regional changes in socio-economic domains – the introduction of EU standards regarding nature resource use, free market of agricultural land, possible privatization of forests, etc. Research methods: physical, bio-, and human-geography approaches / geoecological using technologies of geographic information systems (GIS) and landscape simulators, as well as field expeditionary and stationary observations and sociological surveys. Research results. At the methodological level, new approaches to analyzing and synthesizing landscape properties as complex systems were developed. The proposed approaches were tested in studies of local and regional properties of landscape complexes, which are important for understanding their functioning and evolution.
