Registration Date 01-01-2024 Organization Ukrainian State University of Science and Technology popup.description2 A set of analytical, theoretical, and experimental studies of the processes of out-of-furnace metal processing in a ladle-furnace (LF) using a graphitized hollow electrode (GHE) was carried out. The object of study is the process of metal processing at the ladle-furnace using a graphitized hollow electrode. The purpose of the study is to determine the operating conditions of the GHE that ensure lower electrode consumption and to study changes in the heat balance when heating metal at the LF. To achieve this goal, the following objectives were set: to analyze modern methods of improving the energy efficiency of out-of-furnace steel treatment at the CCM; to determine the regularities of the formation of geometric parameters of the cavity when changing the thickness of the slag layer and the gas flow rate supplied by the axial channel of the graphitized hollow electrode; to determine the efficiency of heat transfer from the arc to the ladle bath when changing the geometric parameters of the cavity formed in the subelectrode zone. Based on the analysis of the literature, an experimental procedure was developed and a laboratory facility for physical modeling on a “water” model was created. Based on the results of the physical modeling of the process of gas injection through the channel of the hollow electrode, data on the geometric parameters of the formed cavity in the metal bath in the LF were obtained. An analysis of the efficiency of heat transfer from the electric arc formed in the subelectrode zone to the metal bath in the LF using a conventional electrode and the hollow one. The obtained data make it possible to: reduce the oxidation process of the GHE by shielding it with an inert gas, especially in the high temperature zone, due to rising argon flows; improve the thermal performance of the electrode; improve heat transferred to the metal bath. The results of the work can be used to improve the performance of the LF at the metallurgical enterprises.
