The purpose of the work is to develop a system of scientific knowledge about the regularities of formation, functioning and development of the state and law in Ukraine and foreign countries. The following research methods were used: general theoretical, comparative legal, historical legal, hermeneutic legal, technical legal analysis, methods of branch jurisprudence (civil legal, constitutional legal, and others). According to the results of the work, it was investigated that the institution of people's power is an integral part of the Ukrainian state-legal tradition; the Ukrainian national revolution of the 17th century is considered an important historical event in Ukraine, which significantly influenced the formation and development of statehood and the legal system in the country, as well as interaction with other nations; the main modern state principle is the protection and preservation of the Ukrainian state, the unity of the Ukrainian people, the protection of national interests and values, the promotion of the development of a strong and modern state, the democratization of Ukrainian society, etc.; knowledge about the history of state systems and legal systems of foreign countries, as well as political and legal teachings (doctrines) allows one to evaluate the evolution of law, determine and generalize trends in the formation of legal norms, which is important for improving modern legislation, protecting rights and developing the legal system as a whole.
