Hydrodynamic forces arising in the clearances of various designs of non-contact annular seals under the influence of pressure drop and shaft rotation largely determine the dynamic characteristics of the rotors of centrifugal machines. Face seals are an important element of industrial machines and devices. They are used in almost all industries, for example, in rotary machines, compressors, high-speed pumps and mixers. Non-contact face seals, which significantly reduce leakage of the sealing medium into the atmosphere and increase the energy efficiency of centrifugal machines, deserve special attention nowadays.
