Purpose - to create sunflower lines with high combining ability for economically valuable traits, to improve methods of selecting parental pairs for crossing, and to create a short-season sunflower hybrid with high adaptability to environmental stressors. Methods - field, laboratory, statistical. Promising female lines Skh 7701A, Skh 779A, Skh 776A, Skh 778A, Skh 772A and lines - fertility restorers Kh 1807V, Kh 1818V, Kh 1803V, and Kh 1809V, which were superior to the check lines in terms of plant performance and had optimal morphological parameters, have been identified. Scientific and practical guidelines for selection of pairs for crossings to derive high-yielding sunflower hybrids using discriminant analysis for prediction of high and low yielding capacities of hybrids based on data on parental lines have been developed. This provides an opportunity to reduce the costs for obtaining and testing low-yielding experimental hybrids. A simple. interline, early-ripening hybrid 'Lehit' with the "germination - physiological ripeness" period of 100 days has been bred and submitted for the state qualification examination. In the competitive trial (2021-2023), it yielded on average 2.44 t/ha or 0.15 t/ha more than the check hybrid 'Slavson'. The hybrid has an increased oleic acid content of 74.5% in oil, is resistant to lodging and shedding and tolerant to head rot.
