The study traces the change in the density of rural settlements and the change in the size of the rural population over the following periods: 1970-1959, 1990-1970, 2022-1970, as well as changes in the potential of the rural population for 1970, 1979, 1989, 2001, 2022. The results of the study reflect changes in the size of the rural population in the regions and within modern communities. Particular attention was paid to the study of rural settlements that, for various reasons, were removed from the state register by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. All relevant mapping products that reflect these changes in the characteristics of the rural population were developed for the first time and are new developments of the researchers. The research results will be used in geospatial planning, which should use the results on the peculiarities of rural population development and its settlement. Russia's aggression in Ukraine has caused enormous damage to the economy, the environment and, no doubt, the population and its settlement. It is obvious that after the victory, a census of the country's population should be conducted, which will provide an opportunity to assess the size of the rural population and its settlement.
