Purpose - to screen sunflower starting materials for resistance to the pathogen of downy mildew (Plasmopara helianthi Novot.) and to identify sources of resistance for effective crop breeding. Methods - phytopathological, breeding, statistical. Theoretical and practical results – six sunflower sources of resistance to the pathogen of downy mildew with a set of valuable economic traits have been identified: Kh 04106 V, Kh 04116 V, Kh 04177 V, Kh 04131 V, Kh 04136 V, and Kh 04102 V. They are noticeable for group resistance to downy mildew, white and gray rots, and Phomopsis stem canker in combination with high oil content (up to +10.4%) and performance (up to +15.4 g) (NCPGRU claims 004953–004957 dated November 17, 2021). Six accessions with combined Pl5, Pl6, and Pl8 genes for resistance to the causative agent of downy mildew (Kh 06-135 V, Kh 134 V, Kh 107 V, Kh 743-07 V, F/O 197 V, and Kh 4413 V) have been used in studies of the Laboratory of Sunflower Breeding and Seed Production of the Yuriev PPI NAAS.
