The purpose of the work: To determine trends in the parameters of planetary waves in the polar regions and the influence of their activity on the ozone content. Research methods: methods of determining climatological averages and superposed epoch analysis; statistical analysis, including linear and more complex trends; spectral analysis methods, in particular, Fourier transform; analysis of vertical profiles of ozone obtained by the Umkehr method using developed software. Data on the influence of sudden stratospheric warming (SSW) on the state of the atmosphere and, in particular, on the ozone distribution are analyzed. We established that the long-term spring data of the total ozone content (TOC) indicate the absence of the ozone layer recovery in Antarctica since the mid-2010s. In particular, ozone holes identified large areas with low TOC values in 2020-2022; the same applies to September 2023. Instead, in October and November 2023, ozone content was close to the multi-year average. The asymmetry of the TOC response to sudden stratospheric warming was revealed: a significant increase in ozone content in high latitudes with a short-term decrease in the region of the zonal minimum in the middle latitudes. At the same time, the sudden stratospheric warming in Antarctica was preceded by an increase in ozone content at the zonal maximum, which may indicate the presence of warming conditions during the previous few weeks. The report also identifies vertical ozone profiles by Umkehr measurements at Akademik Vernadsky station in recent years and analyzes their seasonal features. The results of the work and the applied techniques can be helpful for further study of processes in the stratosphere of polar and middle latitudes, in particular, when analyzing variations in the total ozone content and its vertical distribution.  Product Description popup.authors Andrienko Julia S.
