It has been shown that the activity of lactate dehydrogenase and the level of procalcitonin in the cerebrospinal fluid increase significantly more often in patients with purulent meningitis. In patients with serous meningitis, a significant activation of the Th2 immune response with pronounced production of anti-inflammatory cytokines by nervous system tissues and an increase in their levels in the cerebrospinal fluid was found. For the differential diagnosis of purulent and serous meningitis, the results of immunological studies of the cerebrospinal fluid and blood are of great value, namely: an increase in the level of tumor necrosis factor-? in the cerebrospinal fluid. The clinical features of infectious mononucleosis in children and differences in its course depending on the etiology of the disease are revealed. The high degree of adhesion of bacteria to the epithelial tissues of the tonsils, which was confirmed by the results of histological studies, is the basis for massive bacterial colonization in EBV tonsillitis with the formation of membranous layers. Better positive dynamics of the course of the disease were established in children who, in addition to standard therapy, received a complex drug containing lysozyme and pyridoxine hydrochloride. Based on the results of the conducted research, fundamentally new algorithms for the diagnosis of patients with meningitis have been developed, which allow to differentiate the purulent process from the serous process in the early stages of the disease, as well as to optimize the treatment of infectious mononucleosis in children.
