S. Makarenko popup.description2  New data on the species diversity of dung-inhabiting ascomycetes of the Ukrainian Carpathians were obtained. During the research period, twenty new species were noted for the territory of the Ukrainian Carpathians, two species (Schizothecium dakotense (Griffiths) N. Lundq. and Sordaria lappae Potebnia) are reported for the first time for Ukraine. Eleven species of fungi belong to rare in Ukraine: Ascobolus albidus, A. michaudii, A. sacchariferus, Coprotus dextrinoideus, Lasiobolus intermedius, Podospora pleiospora, Schizothecium miniglutinans, Sch. tetrasporum, Sordaria alcina, S. humana та Sporormiella subtilis. Coprophilous ascomycetes were mainly found on the dung of domestic ruminants. The largest number of species collected on sheep excrements – fourteen. Eleven species were recorded on horse excrement, and twelve on goat dung. Discomycetes predominate on sheep and horse excrements, pyrenomycetes and loculoascomycetes dominate on goat excrements. The results of the research form an information base for the organization of environmental conservation and protect biodiversity on the territories of the Nature Reserve Fund of Ukraine, maintaining inventorying and monitoring of fungi populations. The obtained results can be used in the maintenance of biota cadastres of the investigated nature-reserved territories, as well as in the compilation of markers, writing "Flora" and "Checklists" dedicated to ascomycetes of Ukraine. Herbarium specimens of new and rare for Ukraine species were transferred to the National Herbarium of Ukraine (KW-M).
