Optimally selected methods of high-energy thermal and deformation effects under certain technological regimes make it possible to form nanocrystalline coatings with a chemical and phase composition that is significantly different from the original material. The advantage of the proposed approach compared to the traditional application of coatings is the absence of the problem of forming a smooth transition of the microstructure and properties between the surface layer and the volume of the material, that is, the problem of adhesion is solved. The thickness of the modified surface layers, their wear and corrosion resistance after combined processing significantly exceed the similar characteristics of known methods of intensive surface plastic deformation due to the comprehensive improvement of microrelief and structure parameters, as well as the formation of compressive stresses. Under the action of high-energy mechanical and laser impact, nanocrystalline structures with unique properties are formed. The proposed new combined methods and optimal technological processing regimes allow combining in one cycle: the synthesis of a multicomponent coating, its mechanical strengthening treatment with nanostructuring of the surface, deformation healing of pores in the surface layers, the introduction of compressive stresses and the simultaneous reduction of surface roughness, which are usually separate stages of the technological process.
