A significant difference in the behavior of the electron concentration in the maximum of the F2 layer during these storms was revealed. An ionospheric anomaly was detected during strong storms, occurred in March and April 2023. This anomaly consisted in the fact that the F1 layer completely covered the F2 layer during some observation periods (the electron density in the F1 layer was greater than its density in the F2 layer). This anomaly was because strong magnetic storms dramatically increased the concentration of molecular ions O2+ and N2+ during the periods when the concentration of atomic hydrogen always reaches its maximum value. An increase in the fractions of molecular ions at the heights of the F1 layer led to a decrease in the recombination rate and, as a final result, to a significant increase in the electron density in this region.
