The object of the research is the development of ultrasonic equipment (ultrasonic vibration systems and digitally controlled generators) for the hardening of metal surfaces by plastic deformation in industrial process chambers. The main goal is to develop and manufacture prototypes of equipment for ultrasonic friction hardening of mechanically critical nanostructured metal parts and structures using SMAT (surface mechanical attrition treatment) technologies. Research methods – software modeling and calculations of ultrasonic vibration systems, frequency response analysis of resonant modes of piezoceramic transducers to create algorithms for the digital control software of ultrasonic generators, vibrometric measurements of the amplitude of ultrasonic mechanical vibrations to determine the optimal technological parameters of the equipment.. In the course of the work, industrial samples of technological ultrasonic SMAT equipment were developed and manufactured: digital ultrasonic generators, piezoceramic transducers, mechanical vibration concentrators, technological equipment for machining parts with metal balls. Prototypes were tested at industrial enterprises and research institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The influence of temperature and technological load on the stability of the resonant mode of ultrasonic equipment operation, the dependence of the quality of sample surface treatment on time, the amplitude of mechanical vibrations, and the size and number of metal balls were investigated. Based on the test results of the prototypes, practical recommendations on the use of this technology to improve the productivity of the processing process were given.
