The tasks of research are: - to establish patterns of changes in soil fertility indicators under the influence of perennial irrigation and to investigate the level of rationality of water resource use depending on land and water use systems, features of water supply and its distribution on the Kakhovsky and Ingulets irrigated massifs; - to scientifically substantiate models of ecologically balanced land and water use, taking into account the requirements for preserving the fertility of irrigated soils and preventing their degradation and land desertification, rational use of water resources in the conditions of regional climate changes of the Southern Steppe of Ukraine. As a result of research: - basic information on patterns of changes in soil fertility indicators under the influence of perennial irrigation and the level of rationality of water resource use depending on land and water use systems, features of water supply and its distribution on irrigated massifs of the Southern Steppe was formed of Ukraine; – developed and scientifically based ecologically balanced models of land and water use, taking into account the requirements for preserving the fertility of irrigated soils and preventing their degradation and land desertification, rational use of water resources in the area of operation of irrigation systems of the Southern Steppe of Ukraine. Implementation of the development will help reduce the anthropogenic load on irrigated soils by 12–20%, save irrigation water by 12–18%, depending on the type of irrigation system.
