The aim of the project is to develop scientific foundations and methods for modernisation of coal-fired boiler units at TPPs and CHPPs, taking into account diversification of their fuel base to ensure stable heat and power supply and load regulation in the power system during wartime and post-war periods. The objective of Stage 1 is to identify the factors that reduce the efficiency and reliability of TPP and CHPP boiler units based on the results of comprehensive testing and calculation studies and to prepare technical proposals for improving diagnostic methods, modernisation and reconstruction. The report presents:  analysis of the possibility of operation and the role of coal power in ensuring stable heat and power supply and load regulation in the power system during the war and post-war periods;  the results of the analysis of physical and chemical properties of imported and non-project coal that determine its combustion behaviour;  results of the analysis of performance characteristics and comprehensive tests of TPP and CHP boiler units to identify the main factors of their efficiency and reliability reduction;  results of mathematical modelling of critical deviations of furnace processes with their comparison with the results of tests and thermal calculations;  the results of determining the elements of TPP and CHP boiler units that need to be modernised to increase their efficiency and reliability, directions of modernisation of TPP boiler units converted to bituminous coal combustion, technical proposals for improving the methods of reconstruction of CHP boiler units with conversion to gas-coal, standard technical specifications for the creation of a system for diagnostics and early warning of critical deviations of furnace processes.
