Registration Date 22-01-2024 Organization State Institution "Professor OS Kolomiychenko Institute of Otolaryngology of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine" popup.description2  The analysis of the onco-epidemiological situation in Ukraine for laryngeal cancer showed that malignant neoplasms (ML) of the larynx are characterized by a high level of morbidity and mortality, high rates of neglect and annual mortality, and an extremely low level of active detection of patients during professional examinations. The quantitative characteristics of morbidity were obviously influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic, which changed the organization of the diagnostic process. The incidence of laryngeal ENT showed an increase in the specific weight of cases with an undetermined stage. The effectiveness of diagnosis and treatment of 253 patients with laryngeal cancer and 80 patients with laryngopharyngeal cancer was studied. It was established that the keratinized form of cancer was significantly more often observed in the glottis, and the non-keratinized form of cancer was more characteristic of tumours of the vestibular department of the larynx. Metastasis to the lymph nodes of the neck for cancer of the vestibular part of the larynx was 23 (51%) cases against 15 (7%) cases for cancer of the middle part. The morphological study of laryngeal tumors showed that certain histological variants of squamous cell cancer, in particular, acantholytic, as well as the presence of morphological signs of vascular or perineural invasion of a malignant tumour, can be prognostic factors for the unfavorable development of cancer. A statistically significant lack of expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9 was obtained in the cells of squamous non-keratinized cells in contrast to the more differentiated keratinized cancer of the larynx. The general form and structure of the questionnaire in Ukrainian was developed for studying the quality of life of patients with ENT-oncological pathology, which gives the opportunity to clarify the general condition of patients and to choose effective methods of treatment for laryngeal cancer.
