The effect of synthesis conditions and chemical composition on the light output of scintillating ZnS:Ag was studied. The dependence of the light output of ZnS:Ag on the concentration of AgCl, NaCl and sulfur was established. Thin-layer ZnS:Ag film scintillators were produced using the ZnS:Ag powder synthesized as a result of the work. The physico-chemical and spectral-luminescence properties of the obtained film scintillators were studied. The influence of the thickness of the scintillation films, the granulometric composition of the powder, the binding medium and the method of application of the powder on the light output of the scintillator was evaluated. It was established that the best binding medium is water-emulsion varnish, the method of application is a standard brush, and the thickness of the film scintillator sample is from 0.05 mm to 0.07 mm. The first attempt to create a prototype of a combined neutron detector was made. A detector sample was made from combined scintillation elements - polymethyl methacrylate rings and ZnS:Ag composite layers with the addition of SKE-19 silicone compound as a binding medium. The mass fraction of ZnS:Ag in the composite is 75 %, the thickness of the layers is 200-300 μm, the size of the detector is Ø23 mm×17.2 mm. The relative light output of the detector is 96.2 %.
