Karazin Kharkiv National University popup.description2  The aim of the project was the research and development of technologies for reactive ion-plasma synthesis of biotolerant coatings based on tantalum oxide, nitride, and oxynitride on the surface of metal and polypropylene medical implants, development of methods for controlling the properties of these coatings, and substantiating the use of tantalum-based coatings in hospital surgery, orthopedics, dentistry, restorative and reconstructive surgery, including after injuries and combat wounds. The report describes the experimental setup used to deposit biotolerant coatings and the coating synthesis technologies. The results of experimental studies of both magnetron discharge and physical-mechanical and medical-biological properties of synthesized coatings are also presented. The body's biological response to the parameters of metal implant coatings was studied using in vivo studies. It has been proven that the use of tantalum-coated implants does not cause pathomorphological changes in the organs of the abdominal cavity, and does not provoke purulent-septic processes in the postoperative period, which confirms the possibility of their use to improve the durability and stability of biomedical implants.
