AlN compaction dilatograms at 1700–1900 °C were determined. The Avrami-Yerofeev equation of topochemical reactions was used to describe the kinetics of sintering, the densification constants and the sintering activation energy of AlN powders were calculated. Ceramic composites based on AlN with additives (up to 25% vol.) of titanium nitride and diboride, titanium carbide, molybdenum and tungsten were obtained by means of free sintering. Exact values of the dielectric characteristics of the obtained composites in a wide range of frequencies, as well as electrical resistance and thermal conductivity have been revealed. These values can be used to calculate theoretically sizes of parts of bulk absorbers in such microwave devices as traveling wave tubes (TWT) and klystrons. The obtained composite materials of high thermal conductivity were used at the Scientific Research Institute of Experimental Research at the Igor Sikorsky National Technical University for the development of a broadband high-voltage amplifier with virtual power.
