The object of research is the process of pollution of the natural environment by chemical substances. The purpose of the work is to develop a mechanism for comprehensive assessment of the level of environmental pollution by chemical substances, to provide a management and control system for the state of the environment with modern and high-quality means of obtaining measurement information on the content of chemical pollutants in environmental objects. The paper provides an overview of changes in the Ukrainian regulatory framework for chemical safety and chemicals management. An algorithm for conducting a comprehensive assessment of the level of chemical safety of the territory is developed, based on the calculation of integral indices of pollution of individual environmental components (atmospheric air, water and land resources) with further calculation of a generalized index. The article identifies the main classes of chemicals that have the greatest impact on the atmospheric air, soil and water environment in accordance with the current legislation.
