The aim of this work is to create a scientific approach and develop a methodology based on it to determine the dependence of physical plasticity of materials on the rate of deformation, temperature and structural factors (grain size, strengthening, density of dislocations) during standard tensile tests. Development of a methodology for determining the mechanical properties of surface layers of materials and coatings from hardness measurements. Research methods include microhardness measurements in a wide temperature range, mechanical tensile and compression tests, tribological studies, optical, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction analysis. During the project, a corresponding correlation was found between physical plasticity and elongation to failure in standard mechanical tensile tests for different groups of metal alloys. The temperature dependence of physical plasticity for different types of materials was studied for the first time. It was experimentally proved that the actual strengthening of surface layers and coatings should be characterized not only by an increase in hardness, but also by an increase in yield stress. The results of the project can be used to develop materials with specified mechanical properties, ensuring not only strength, but also specified plasticity. The economic significance of the work is due to the possibility to significantly reduce the number of experiments in the elaboration of new alloys using the developed theories.
