Comparative images of the past and types of Ukrainian historians in the light of life scenarios, professional careers and research strategies popup.stage_title Head Udod Oleksandr A., Доктор історичних наук Registration Date 31-01-2024 Organization Institute of History of Ukraine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description2  The main result of the study is a theoretical generalisation of the methodology of historical comparative studies and clarification of its place in modern historical science. It is concluded that the most important stage in the formation of comparative studies was the nineteenth century, when the comparative historical method was actually formed. It has been widely used in linguistics, sociology, law, literature, and ethnography. The article focuses on the widespread use of comparative studies by the classic of Ukrainian history M.S. Hrushevsky. He always considered the history of his people in an organic relationship with the history of other peoples, and, above all, Russian, Lithuanian, Polish, etc. It is concluded that today comparative historians are showing increased interest in the functioning of large multi-ethnic empires. Comparativism is being renewed by studies of the cultural component, regional history and the problems of nationalism and national movements. Recently, the attention of comparative historians has been drawn to the problems of the consequences of the world wars of the twentieth century, as well as such, until recently, unconventional aspects as climate history, environmental threats, etc. The author analyses current trends in world historiography and concludes that it is necessary to study national history through the prism of global history and historiography. The subject field of "cross-history" and "history of transfers", which became widespread in the early twenty-first century in the wake of globalisation and the desire to go beyond national states and national points of view, is specified. The conclusion is made that a new trend in historiography has emerged - transnational history. An attempt is made to distinguish between the subject field of global and transnational history. The scientific tools used in historical comparative studies are specified, namely: pragmatic induction, historicisation of categories of analysis, reflection.
