Bakul Institute of superhard material of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description2  Sintering the exothermic mixtures of TiO2, ZrO2, Cr2O3, Al and carbon ash in nitrogen was studied. It was revealed that the maximum hardness of HV18-19GPa and crack resistance K1С=6.7 MPa∙m0.5 is achieved in the material made of mixtures TiO2(ZrO2) – Al and carbon ash. High-viscosity K1C=7.4 MPa∙m0.5, wear-resistant ceramics based on 50Al2O3-50TiCN were obtained. It was established that annealing in nitrogen the commercial cutting inserts made of WC-(Ti, W)C0.89 alloys, pre-sintered in a vacuum or sintered with vacuum-compression under 0.5MPa nitrogen pressure, increases by 2.0-2.5 times their cutting properties if a formation of stoichiometric (Ti,W)CN phase on the working surface occurs. After annealing an experimental alloy based on a multicomponent bond (Co, Ni, Fe, Al, Cr), its cutting properties increase by the same times if a formation of Al(Cr)NO coating takes place. For the first time, the formation of a gradient structure with elongated inclusions of the new W2.3TiС2.6 phase with overgrowth of residual micropores in the granular structures of WC-(Ti,Ta,W)C-Co alloys pre-sintered using a special technology and an additional long-term solid-phase annealing was revealed. Cutting plates were produced using obtained ceramic materials. They were competitive with analogues of leading world manufacturers in dry high-performance blade processing of various alloys. 36 chisels were manufactured and sent to Krasnyansk "Agromash" Co. for industrial deep loosening of black soil.
