The use of multilayer coatings to increase the efficiency of the electrodes in the hydrogen production electrolyzer is proposed for the first time. Unlike current materials containing platinoids, these coatings contain only available and relatively cheap metals copper, nickel and zinc, and unlike modern non-platinum single-layer catalytic coatings, they consist of several tens of thin, nano-sized layers of different composition, which are formed using programmed electrolysis and additionally processed chemically. Due to obtaining mechanically and corrosion-resistant structures with increased catalytic activity, multi-layer coatings provide lower electricity consumption during electrolytic hydrogen evolution and longer service life of electrodes. In addition, data were obtained on the nature of the relationship between the phase composition of the layers of alloys of zinc-nickel-copper system and the corrosion resistance and microhardness of multilayer coatings. This made it possible to obtain enhanced mechanical and anti-corrosion properties compared to coatings based on these alloys that known in the world. Experimental samples of thin-film hydrogen-accumulating coatings were obtained. For the first time, thin films containing magnesium and silicon with a thickness of less than 10 nm were obtained in a stable modification, using the method of magnetron sputtering, with precision control of the thickness of each of the materials. A fundamentally new material based on titanium-zirconium-nickel quasi-crystals was created, which, unlike the existing ones, is single-phase, which provides for its unique properties. New X-ray methods for the analysis of nanoobjects are proposed, which, unlike existing methods, do not require destructive preparation of the sample.
