Within the boundaries of the research grounds in Roztochka, Volynsky Poliss and the Vododilno-Verkhovyna Ridge, trial areas were laid out, on which complex forestry, soil science and zoological studies were conducted to clarify the peculiarities of the structural and functional organization of forest ecosystems. A scheme of ecotopic classification of beetles (Coleoptera, Carabidae) was developed and tested. Initial monitoring studies of the specific flow of carbon dioxide from the soil surface of ancient forests were carried out and a differential assessment of the intensity of carbon dioxide generation by mineral soil and forest litter was carried out.
