This species is aerophilic, and its spores can be transferred by air currents. Chlorella vulgaris was also recorded in the water samples, which were purified with the new UV lamp, but were not exposed to direct sunlight and summer temperature for 3.5 months. The algal cell count in this sample made up 1800 thousand cells/dm3, and the biomass – 0.007 mg/dm3. The chemical oxygen demand in the water sample under study made up 4.3 mg O/dm3. In accordance with the state standard of Ukraine DSTU 4808:2007 “Sources of central water supply. Hygienic and ecological requirements to water quality and water intake rules” the quality of this water sample is considered “good” (Class 2). After the 3.5 months’ exposition to direct sunlight and summer temperature neither the cell count of algae nor the organic matter content increased. The findings of the 1-st and 2-nd phases of the survey show that the new UV lamp significantly reduces the cell count of algae in water, but does not destroy them completely. One may hypothesize, that green algae detected in water samples may get to the pouring equipment from air at the stage of spores, for example when the line stays idle.
