Lukyanova National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine" popup.description2  The aim of the work is to establish reference values of immune parameters for participants of Antarctic expeditions to predict a favorable state of their health in conditions of increased exposure to stress factors. Research methods are flow cytometry, immunoenzymatic methods, and cell culture methods. The state of health was analyzed according to the medical reports of the expedition doctor and the results of the medical commission. The main accentuated immunological parameters associated with complicated adaptation to increased exposure to stress factors include a reduced percentage of T-helpers (CD3+CD4+), increased expression of HLA-DR on T-cytotoxic lymphocytes (CD4+CD8+), increased percentage and absolute content NK-lymphocytes and unbalanced expression level of NKp46 on NK-lymphocytes. All these parameters within certain reference limits are reliably associated with normal adaptation. Whereas, accentuated levels of these parameters are observed in the individals with complicated adaptation. The conditions of stay in the UAE lead to an increase in the stress hormone cortisol, which remains elevated even after returning from the expedition. This is what leads to the need for adaptation, and this process is very individual and, as we can see, depends on the initial state of the immune system. Conclusions. The developed diagnostic protocol makes it possible to predict with high probability the probability of unsuccessful adaptation during the expedition, and therefore it will allow to select participants or carry out measures to prevent complications and improve adaptation.
