Experimental coatings were manufactured and investigated, the optimal operating modes of the helicon source of ion-plasma flows, which was used for the formation of coatings, were determined. The coatings were formed under the action of ion-plasma flows in the trampoline mode, when hierarchical nano- and submicron structures were formed on the surface. Such structures caused extremely strong adhesion of coating materials and surfaces with different physical properties. The multi-component coating material was transferred to the surface by nanoclusters tens of nanometers in size, which reproduced its composition and properties in the coating. The study of the structure, composition and physical and mechanical properties of coatings was carried out by the methods of raster electron microscopy, energy dispersive analysis and micro-probe studies with dynamic scanning. The scientific and practical results consist in the discovery of a new type of non-independent glow discharge in a limited space with a decrease in the output of electrons from the cathode - a barrel, which limits the discharge volume. This type of discharge has no analogues in world practice and provides effective modification of the surface of the barrel with a diameter of six millimeters and a length two orders of magnitude greater than the diameter. The Terms of Reference for research and development work on the production of a prototype barrel of 30 mm caliber have been developed. The results are of practical importance for improving the tactical and technical characteristics of artillery barrels and small arms, creating barrier layers in pipelines for hydrogen energy and corrosion protective coatings on the inner surface of pipes for transporting aggressive substances.
