The purpose of the study is to analyze current processes in radioactively contaminated catchment areas caused by anthropogenic activities and climate change in order to assess their impact on the formation of radionuclide transport by air and water outside the radioactively contaminated areas. Research methods include field experimental work with sampling and laboratory analysis, the method of sequential extractions with subsequent determination of radionuclides by gamma spectrometry, radiochemistry, beta radiometry, alpha spectroscopy, radiography, GIS technologies, and statistical analysis. During the period of the research work, the following results were obtained: statistical analysis of the spatial and temporal distribution of fires in the ChEZ and estimates of the impact of weather conditions on the probability of their occurrence; development of a methodology for rapid assessment of radionuclide emissions to the atmosphere from wild fires in radioactively contaminated areas; experimental estimates of radionuclide emission factors to the atmosphere during the burning of forest litter in full-scale conditions; water balance for watersheds in the ChEZ and assessment of the impact of climate change on its components; parameterization of radionuclide washout processes from the ChEZ catchment areas based on long-term observations; assessment of radiation consequences of re-wetting of former drainage reclamation systemin the ChEZ. Based on the results of the research, it is recommended to re-wet the former drainage reclamation systems as an effective countermeasure to improve fire safety in the ChEZ.  Product Description popup.authors popup.nrat_date 2024-02-11 Close
