The purpose of the work is to improve the method of researching signatures made with a significant gap in time for handwriting experts. Research methods - general (formal and logical methods of cognition: analysis, synthesis, generalization, analogy), general scientific and special (observation, measurement, description, comparison, technical-forensic, identification, microscopic, quantitative, modeling, forensic experimentation, method of expert evaluations ). Theoretical and practical results – the method of researching signatures made with a significant gap in time has been improved. The analysis of literary sources on the issues of researching signatures performed with a significant gap in time, and the generalization of modern expert practice of judicial expert institutions of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine regarding the possibilities of researching the specified handwriting objects was carried out; the theoretical and methodical foundations of the handwriting research of signatures made with a significant gap in time were considered and improved; the task, the subject, the object and the stages of the expert research are defined, the detected handwriting signs inherent in certain tactics of execution of signatures executed with a significant gap in time are grouped and analyzed; the algorithm of sequential actions of the expert was developed; attention was paid to the peculiarities of the preparation of materials when appointing a forensic handwriting examination of such objects. Novelty – the expert methodology for handwriting experts on identification research of signatures made with a significant gap in time has been improved.
