Therefore, the only alternative to the liquidation of the sheep population in order to preserve the sheep breeding industry is the quick restructuring of the technology by the producers and the direction of the selection of animals to obtain competitive products. Since the rapid replacement of the existing breeding stock in farms with breeds that are more promising from the point of view of the market is a rather costly measure, one of the selection methods that solves the problem of increasing lamb production is the use of crossbreeding of local breeds of sheep with multi-breeding and meat breeds. The problem of increasing the reproductive capacity of sheep and their early breeding due to the use of crossbreeding with multiple fertility of the Romanov breed is being actively researched in various countries of the world. The chosen direction of scientific research work is relevant, and the obtained results provide a solution to the problem of increasing the production of young lamb and increasing the number of sheep in modern, mostly small farms in different regions of Ukraine. The crossbreeding of Kharkiv inbred sheep of the Prekos breed and the Romanov breed ensures the production of ewes of half-blood hybrids, which in terms of fertility exceed Kharkiv type ewes by 25.4%. Fertility of crossbred ewes and ewes this year was 130.4%, while that of purebred ewes of the same age was only 105%. In crossbred ewes, shearlings and ewes of this year of mating age, the live weight was probably lower compared to purebred ewes of the same age with an increase in wool length and thickness. Thin-wool sheep of the Prekos meat-wool breed are characterized by higher live weight and wool productivity compared to the multi-fruited Romanov breed.
