The increased frequency of inflammatory diseases of the cornea in patients with diabetes may be associated with a violation of the neurotrophic state of the cornea in this group of patients. It has been clarified that about 25-30% of diabetic patients with refractive errors need vision correction, including contact lenses. The frequency of corneal complications during contact correction in this group of patients significantly exceeds that in healthy individuals. Patients with diabetes are in the risk group regarding the need for surgical intervention on the eyeball due to the high frequency of developing complicated cataracts and glaucoma resistant to drug therapy.
