The theoretical and methodological support for the formation of value chains in the timber industry of Ukraine has been developed. The article offers methodical provisions for diagnostics of problems of development of the forestry complex of Ukraine and countries of the world, which include: assessment of the state of forestry and logging in Ukraine and countries of the world; assessment of the dynamics of world logging and export-import operations by sectors and groups of goods of the world forestry complex in the following directions: dynamics of production, export, import, domestic consumption, export orientation, import dependence; positioning of countries of the world by the level of development of the forestry complex. The theoretical foundations for identifying the main substantive determinants of value chain formation are developed based on the use of bibliometric (VOSviewer v.1.6.10) and trend (GoogleTrends) analysis tools. A methodical approach to assessing the foreign trade security of the timber industry of Ukraine has been developed, which takes into account its specifics and allows identifying threats, including those related to the degree of concentration of exports and imports of products, low technological efficiency of production, the volume of value added and limited reserves of own forest resources.
